No question. iPhones are an amazing design. Google’s Android is a powerful, open source mobile operating system. Two things coming at you from different angles.
I bet a lot of people are waiting for a phone as great looking as an iPhone but using the innovative Android 2 operating system with all its open development possibilities…
Well, wait no more. OK, just until November, anyway…

Hi, Jess,
Love it! You’ve probably now discovered what this is all about, but basically, Motorola is about to release a mobile phone using Google’s new Android 2 operating system. And its called Droid.
Android is based around an Open Source Linux core, which along with a more powerful processor, will allow it to multi-task and run applications simultaneously, which the iPhone currently can’t.
The viral teaser movie featured lists all the things Droid can do that iPhone can’t.
There’s not many details out about the phone, but this much is known. The phone has a sliding display that reveals a real, not touch keyboard, although the screen does have touch capabilities which allow use as a touch-screen based phone when closed.
There are several prototype image shots taken some time ago, but the final product will use a better keyboard than the one shown in images elsewhere.
The new screen is described as “amazing”. It has a 5 MP camera with night time capabilities and the phone will be very customisable, again something you can’t do with iPhone. Will Droid be the iPhone killer?
No, I very much doubt it. Much like Macs didn’t kill PCs. But it gives people a real choice and makes Blackberry look pretty dull!
WE live in exciting times as Apple has cancelled the exclusivity deals with the network providers, so we could see some great prices for iPhone, Blackberry and I bet, Motorola’s Droid.
Watch out for early 2010 when I reckon we’ll see Android 3 make an appearance!
